We also want to share with you some of our favorite memories at Cornerstone! First of all we're grateful to you for recommending and for doing our pre-marital counseling!!! We also enjoyed the church picnic and games and the trunk or treat event. One of my favorites was the women's retreat. We look forward to a great new year at Cornerstone! As you probably know, I had a very difficult beginning to the year, but God's family came to my rescue (you guys know who you are) and I have a very special affection and appreciation for all of you who helped me (from cleaning my house to giving me rides and giving me things, praying for me and then some!). I love all of you and thank you from the bottom of my heart - I just love the church family that God has picked out for me! See you soon, Yvonne

Celebrate Recovery is a biblically based recovery ministry combining the traditional 12 steps and their biblical comparisons with 8 principals based on the Beatitudes from the sermon on the mount. The prime ministry goal is to help all people overcome hurts, hangups, and habits by exchanging Jesus for whatever compulsive behavior is affecting their lives. The leader of this program is Rick Willinsky. Praying for a godly woman to lead the recovery program for women.

Your First Visit - Home

Come to Worship, get directions, dress casual, bring the kids, and let the collection plate pass you by....

Come to Worship... Sunday mornings at 10:00-11:15am. Either bring your kids directly into worship or check them into the children's ministry or nursery (follow the direction signs or ask a greeter for directions). If you have youth, Junior High and High School students meet in worship and then are invited together for a lesson. We try hard to engage our youth--they may be in the Youth Room for Sunday Extreme or helping to lead in worship.

Get Directions... We are meet at the Cornerstone Cafe (look for our direction signs in the neighborhood). Look for the pull down for directions and map on our website.

Dress casual... the first thing you'll notice about us is that we are by no means strictly a suit and tie church. Sure, some folks feel more comfortable dressing in a more formal manner, and that\'s great. But you'll see people in shorts, sandals, jeans, you name it, we have it. The point is not how you dress for our services, the point is that you are comfortable. Our worship experience is all about making you enjoy your time with us and to focus your attention on the Lord.

Bring the kids...its a sin to bore kids at church. We really believe that! Our kids connection staff works hard to help your kids want to be with us. No experience required for your kids--just come. We strive to make you feel comfortable about sending your kids to our safe, supervised, and fun kid's program next to the worship center. All our volunteer staff are lovingly trained and for safety, have background checks.

First & third Sundays, children are in "Family Worship". Second and fourth Sundays kids go directly to Children's Choir where they learn songs they perform. Each Sunday, Sunday's Kid Connection include music, media presentations, arts and crafts, whole group discussions, and most importantly the small group break-out sessions. "Kids Connection". Relax and send them on down with our qualified children's ministry leaders. We guarantee on your next visit they will be running for the doors when it's time to go "Kid's Connection."

Let the collection plate pass you by... Our worship services are our gift to you so that you can meet with God. We appreciate you taking the time out of your busy lives to check us out. When it's time for our offering, please feel free to let it pass you by and accept this gift from us.

Now with all that out of the way, sit back and enjoy what Cornerstone has to offer. Through special music, multi-media presentations, contemporary music, drama, and practical messages, we present the ageless truths of the Bible in a format that's easy to understand, even if you've never been to church.

The Goal of Covenant Small Groups at Cornerstone - Entire Database

Sometimes we mistakenly think the Christian life is primarily about entrance to heaven. We're content with conversion when God is calling for transformation. Rather than expecting the kingdom of God to revolutionize lives today, we hope it will happen in heaven tomorrow.

Somewhere along the line we swapped out Jesus' gospel-through him we can be transformed into citizens of the kingdom of God, right now, today-for a gospel of heaven's minimum entrance requirement.

When Paul writes about being "morphed" in Romans 12:2, he gives a command, but in passive voice. He doesn't say, "Transform yourself"; he says, "Be transformed." We can't make transformation happen ourselves; it is something God does to us. But what then is our role in it-personally and in our churches?

1 Corinthians 9:25 says, "Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever." Here is the reason many people give up on transformation or accept boundary markers as pseudo-transformation: we spend ourselves trying to be transformed, when the Bible calls us to train to be transformed.

There is an enormous difference between trying to do something versus training to do it. Take for example a marathon. How many of us could run a marathon right now? Even if we tried, really, really hard? But many of us could run a marathon eventually, if instead we trained for it.

Too often in our churches, people hear us talk about what an amazing person Jesus is. They leave thinking, I've got to try hard to be like him. We're unwittingly setting them up for frustration. When the trying proves ineffective, they eventually quit or rely on external trivialities to pretend they're transformed. Authentic spiritual transformation begins with training, with discipline. As we train ourselves in godliness, we begin to overcome the limits of sinful patterns. The purpose of that discipline is always freedom-training myself to be free of the obstacles that hinder my transformation.

Training means arranging life around those activities that enable us to do what we cannot do now, even by extreme effort. Significant human transformation always involves training, not just trying. That is the goal of Covenant Small Groups. We can only be transformed when we spend time training.

Three Steps to Becoming Accountable - Men's Ministry

Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

Proverbs 27:17

While your mate should be your primary accountability partner, there also is great benefit in getting "sharpened" by other godly Christians. If you want to see some significant growth in your spiritual maturity this may be the most important step you could take.

I have three suggestions:

First, determine your needs. What are the two or three things that seem to entangle you more than anything else? Is it finances? Lustful thoughts? Overeating? Not spending enough time with the Lord?

Second, select a mature Christian-of the same sex-who would have the courage to speak the truth and ask you tough questions. This should not be someone who would fear your rejection, or someone who has a weakness in the same area, or someone you feel you can manipulate or control. This is especially important if you are strong-willed or have a powerful personality.

Third, approach this person and ask him to keep you accountable. Here is what you might say: "Bill, I have a problem and I really need your help in an area of my life. I need for you to love me through this and hold my feet to the fire, but not be judgmental. Because, Bill, I really need to get victory over this."

Finally, meet with this person on a regular basis to set measurable goals and to allow him to ask you how you're doing. Agree to a list of questions he will ask you. "Frank, have you written out a budget yet?" "Why not?" "When will you do it?" And here's a powerful one: "Have you lied to me at all today?"

If you're trying to mature in Christ and gain victory over sin by yourself, you're missing it! Praise God that He has given us the body of Christ...to strengthen us, encourage us and keep us accountable!

Discuss: What are your greatest needs that would lead you to find an accountability partner? Who are potential accountability partners you could approach?

Pray: That God would lead you to people who He can use to sharpen you.

Sunday AM Youth Group.

Is it possible to be a Christian and still have fun? Yes! But how do you do that? We meet Sundays to explore what it means to be a student and to live for God. We offer great music, crazy games, weird prizes and much more! Your time at youth group will also include a cool lesson aimed at helping you understand the amazing life that Jesus Christ offers.

Weekly Youth Group

Junior High Impact meets Tuesdays from 6:00 - 8:00pm. It is easy to feel overwhelmed and "lost" in a big crowd. Tuesday is a time to get plugged in and meet new people. At Small Group, we offer a cool Bible Study aimed at Middle School students, along with great snacks, crazy games and a great place to hang out with your friends along with making new ones.

High School Youth Group, called the Fuse, meets Mondays at Cornerstone Cafe from 6:30 - 8:30pm. The Fuse will challenge High School age students with a relevant Bible Study aimed to challenge and prepare students to know what they believe and how to defend their beliefs in an ever-changing world. Oh Yeah, we also provide dinner (burgers, pizza, etc.) The Fuse is a great place to build accountability with your friends.

Student Leadership! We are looking for students who no longer want to be part of the crowd, but on the front lines of Youth Ministry. We want you to use your gifts and talents! If you are interested in leading through worship, tech, drama or any other area where you feel you can help, let us know!

Volunteers! Do you want to make an impact in the lives of students? Then we are looking for you. You may think that you are not cut out to do it, but you would be surprised! We need adult leaders who are willing to help on Sunday mornings, at Bible Studies and special events.

We also have a lot of fun on special events as we travel to summer and winter camps, go to Spirit West Coast, river trips, beach excursions and tons of other outrageous events in and out of town. Check the calendar to see what event is coming up next.

Girls to Women... - CCC Student Ministries

SEE JANE TRY TO BE MORE
SEXY

New Research

  The
Damage Done. Those of us who care about girls have
intuitively sensed that the pressure to be "sexy" damages the way they
view themselves and others. A 2007 report by the American Psychological
Association (APA) spells out the destruction more explicitly. Whether
it's a five year-old girl walking through a shopping mall in a short
T-shirt that says "Juicy", or a magazine article that virtually
promises teenage girls that losing 10 pounds will get them the
boyfriend of their dreams, sexualization is linked to impaired
cognitive performance, eating disorders, low self-esteem, and even
physical health problems.2

  The Parent
Trap. Over 77,000 invasive cosmetic surgical procedures
are performed on teens each year. 3 While that in and of itself is
shocking, consider this: minors cannot undergo these surgeries unless
their parents consent. In most cases, since these procedures are not
covered by medical insurance, parents pay for the surgery as well.

  Mom/Girl
Competition. Much attention has been placed on the
messages that the media sends to young girls about their bodies, and
rightly so. But what about the messages from mom? Youth workers are
noticing that more and more moms seem to be competing with their
teenage daughters for the perfect body, and wearing clothes that show
off their efforts. Girls are struggling to keep up. With bodies that
change faster than they can handle, and certainly more unpredictably
than their mothers', adolescent girls may find themselves in a losing
race with their moms to be more sexy.

How You Can Respond

Schedule a Girls-Only series of small groups and invite
moms or female mentors also. While you'll want to have the girls and
women meet together much of the time, schedule a separate discussion
with the moms and mentors about the messages they may be often
unknowingly communicating to their girls when they make either negative
or positive comments about their own bodies, as well as their
daughters'.

Have a similar conversation with both male and female
volunteers and small group leaders in your ministry, discussing the
ways our own pursuit of physical perfection as adults shapes the
attitudes and behaviors of the girls we work with. Talk honestly about
the ways we might be contributing to girls' confusion by gravitating
either toward or away from girls who are wearing clothing that flaunts
their bodies. With your female volunteers, role play having a
conversation with a girl who is trying to be "more sexy" that
sensitively asks her how she views her body as well as why she wears
the clothing that she does.

Get middle school girls who are ready to think more deeply
together and give them a notebook and some art supplies and let them
create their own journals to help them reflect on the pressure to be
more sexy. After a few weeks or months, have a check-in lunch and ask
them to look back through their journals, identifying common words and
themes that they can discuss together. By teaching middle school girls
to journal and name forces like "pressure," "image management," and
"sexualization," we're giving them lenses to interpret and process
their experiences and feelings. Simply being able to identify and name
their experiences can help young teenagers make sense out of what feels
like chaos.

Help high school girls who are already pretty adept at
making sense of that type of chaos (at least on their better days)
learn to view their bodies in more reflective and sophisticated ways.
Yes, your girls need to exercise and pay attention to nutrition, but
it's not so they can look better in their swimsuits this summer. It's
because God's made our bodies and God wants to be honored in the way we
treat them, and that means we integrate disciplines that help us stay
healthy. Through honest discussions and our own self-disclosure, we can
help our girls find a healthy middle ground between the two extremes of
body obsession and body neglect.

SEE JANE PUSH HOW FAR IS
TOO FAR

New Research

  Just
Say No Might Not Do It. First the good news: teenagers who
take a virginity pledge delay sexual intercourse and have fewer sexual
partners than those who do not. Now for the not-so-good news: the delay
of first sexual intercourse is only about 21 months, with the average
age being 18.8 for pledgers and 16.11 for non-pledgers. Approximately
75% of teens who make a promise to God, family, friends, future mate,
and future children not to have sex before marriage DO NOT succeed in
keeping that promise. 4 What's worse, students who take a pledge are
less likely to use a condom at first intercourse, and are more likely
to engage in other sexual behaviors (i.e., oral sex, anal sex). 5 This
research suggests that our efforts to help girls "stay pure" might be
too focused on avoiding specific behaviors and not focused enough on a
deeper transformation of hearts and attitudes toward sexuality.

How You Can Respond

We're not totally anti-abstinence pledge. But instead of
using statistics or fear to get students to "just say no," perhaps we
should try giving students a vision for the benefits that happen when
they "just say yes" to God's desires. Remind students that their
hormones are God-given and that God's intention for them is nonetheless
to abstain from sex until marriage. Couple a pledge with a more
significant ritual related to abstinence on a retreat or at a special
gathering. Involve moms and dads and invite them to think beyond a
purity ring and instead give girls a camera so that they can see their
purity through a new lens, or a pocket mirror inscribed with the words
"God's Image" to remind them each time they open it that their worth
comes not from their sexuality but from God's image residing in them.
And rather than focusing our conversations on "how far is too far"
(which rings empty to most of our kids anyway), maybe we can help to
shape a new perception of female sexuality that helps girls integrate
their sexuality with the rest of life (including their spirituality) so
they can set wise boundaries with their bodies before they even enter
romantic relationships.

SEE JANE PLAY. SEE JANE
SIT.

New Research

  The
Couch Potato-ette. There's mixed news about girls' sports
these days. While more girls than ever are playing organized sports,
overall they are becoming less active and less healthy (yes, even those
who play a sport). Outside of organized sports, girls seem to be
literally sitting around a whole lot more than they used to. Girls lag
behind boys in meeting age-appropriate healthy levels of physical
activity, and they drop out of organized sports more often, especially
as they transition from childhood to adolescence. 6

It's True: Some Girls Do Throw Like Girls. Researchers
studying the influence of body image on sports have found that the way
a girl feels about her body predicts how she'll throw a softball. If
she has learned that her body is an object and she needs to be
concerned about her appearance at all times, she is far more likely to
"throw like a girl". The good news is that adolescent girls on sports
teams tend to have higher self-esteem, which improves body image. But
sports can be a double-edged sword for girls, especially given that
studies show that popular media still overwhelmingly sexualize women's
sports, focusing on women's bodies rather than their athletic
competence. 7 One recent study found that a full 76 percent of teen
girls had received sexist comments on their athletic abilities.8

How You Can Respond

Give girls ways to appropriately express their physicality,
even if they aren't jocks. What messages are girls learning about their
bodies by the sports or physical games involved in your youth ministry?
Are these games targeted only to guys while girls sit on the sidelines
and watch or cheer? How can you bring new twists to games so that
differences in strength and athleticism are neutralized and the playing
field is leveled? A girl who lacks confidence in her body or her
athletic prowess and who chooses to sit on the sidelines during
volleyball might dive in and play a modified volleyball game in which
everyone plays on their knees, or you play with a balloon instead or a
real ball. Experiment with minimizing the competition focus of games
and elevating the focus on fun and relationship-building (which of
course is good not just for girls, but for guys, too!).

Of course, girls will also be far more likely to get off
the bleachers and into the game if your female adult volunteers
understand the power of their own modeling. Every time your female
leaders sit out, they are saying it's not only permissible but
preferred for girls to sit on the sidelines. Instead, involve your
female leaders in planning the games, and when it's time to play the
game, hand over leadership to those same women so that girls see women
not just playing, but taking initiative and enjoying it.

SEE JANE BUY…AND FEEL BAD
ABOUT HERSELF

New Research

OK, it's no shock that girls are a huge consumer market.
But recent research shows another twist: teen materialism has been
linked directly to self-esteem, especially among younger teens, and
especially among girls. When self-esteem drops (particularly in early
adolescence), materialism skyrockets. When self-esteem goes up,
materialism drops-again, especially if it goes up in early adolescence.
Unfortunately, self-esteem usually does not begin to rise again until
later adolescence. 9

How You Can Respond

Give girls opportunities to increase their self-esteem by
helping them identify and use their natural and spiritual gifts. Do
girls experience themselves in your ministry and church as more than
just a kitchen helper or a nursery worker? If not, brainstorm with your
team until you develop a strategy for changing the perceptions and
roles of young females across the spectrum of church ministry.

Teach girls how to advocate. A few years ago a group of
13-16 year old girls was able to convince Abercrombie and Fitch to pull
a line of T-shirts boasting slogans such as, "Who needs brains when you
have these?" across the chest. Their "girlcot" is only one of a number
of successful examples of girls advocating for the reduction of
cultural sexualization of women. 10

SEE JANE SOAR

While some of these new research findings are downright
scary, the more time we spend with creative youth workers, the more
hopeful we become. Let's work together to see the Janes in our ministry
love God with their hearts, their minds, their souls—and their bodies
too.

Action Points

1.
Which of the "Jane" characteristics do you see the most in
the girls in your ministry? Which of the "response" ideas
would have the most impact and help your girls truly soar?

  2. What (if any) are the
common attitudes or behaviors of the girls in your ministry that are
missing from the list? How have you tried to respond so
far? What other ideas do you have based on this article?

It’s hard for me to think of one best moment at Cornerstone! - Cornerstone Stories

It's hard for me to think of one best moment at Cornerstone! God has done so much this year! The one that stands out the most to me was the Founder's Day banquet. Having 75 charter members and experiencing the enthusiasm and excitement of everyone as we were finally considered a church by the denomination was an incredible moment!

Being at Green Lake - The Feast and watching you be ordained Covenant was a precious moment, as I know how hard you worked to get there!

I also think the bonding that occurred at Cornerstone Camp in Alpine was irreplaceable. God works through the relationships of his people! The significance of time spent in His word and then just hanging out together is so great! I wish we could spend more time doing these things!

Thanks for being an incredible pastor with an amazing heart for Jesus and for His people!

Lots of love to you!

We encourage you to thoroughly view one or two a day until you've seen them all. Some you'll connect with and you'll want to save them and possibly utilize what they have to offer as well as forward to family, friends and co-workers. Some you will not connect with so we suggest you do what we do and that is simply delete them and move on to the next one.

Most of them are Christian oriented but there are a few of them that are secular that do feature helpful information. May they be an information-filled blessing to you.

Praise the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with tambourine and dancing, praise him with the strings and flute, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.

How to Become a Christian

When I think about how to become a Christian, I am reminded of a runaway farm horse that came racing down the road toward me. When he saw me, he dashed off the road and got tangled in a huge bundle of old rusty wire. The more he struggled to free himself, the more tightly he became tangled. Finally he lay helpless, with wires all around him, breathing heavily and snorting with frustration.

Several people tried to untangle him, but as soon as anyone came close, the horse resumed his struggling. Then a man who loved and understood horses arrived on the scene. For a long time he talked quietly to the horse from a distance. Slowly, as he talked he came nearer. When he got close enough he began to pat the horse gently. Soon the horse grew calm enough to permit the man to begin cutting away the wire with a pair of pliers.

As long as the horse trusted the man and lay quietly, all went well. But whenever he struggled to help free himself, he only made things worse. Finally the horse gave up and let the man cut away the wires until he was free again. Not only was he free - he was also calm enough to let the man lead him back to his owner.

Life, like this runaway horse, is out of control. Here we are with everything imaginable to entertain us - to make life a paradise.

Yet these things never seem to bring us peace. The world is full of trouble, and most of the trouble is caused by people. Many of us would like to separate ourselves from those who cause the trouble and think of ourselves as being exceptions, but we can't do this. None of us is perfectly good, and probably no one is all bad. It is impossible to draw a sharp line between the good and the bad. We are all tangled up with this troubled world because we are part of it.

As the Bible says, There is no difference, for all have sinned (Romans 3:22-23). God has included all of us among the sinners so he can save us from our entanglement and set us free.

Jesus said, If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed (John 8:36). We Christians are people who are continually being set free, free to live a satisfying and useful life, free from a troubled conscience, free to be what God intended us to be. Jesus offers us a purpose for living, and he assures us of the freedom to fulfill that purpose. Just like the horse, we must give up the struggle to free ourselves. We must trust Jesus to save us from our entanglement and set us free.

The Bible tells us: It is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Since salvation is a gift from God, it is available to all people on the same basis. It makes no difference what you have done, why you did it, or how bad it was. If you will trust Jesus, he will come to you as the man came to the horse, set you free, forget your past, and lead you back to God. Then he will help you start to live a new, free life.

God has done everything necessary.

God has sent his Son, Jesus, who died for sins and rose again. This is the most important truth about the Christian faith. The Apostle Paul explained it this way: For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures (I Corinthians 15:3-4).

God has done everything necessary for us to be saved from our entanglement. He did it for us because he knew we were so deeply entangled that we could never save ourselves. We can only trust him and accept by faith what he has done for us. This is what the Bible calls "the good news."

What if we can't believe in God and in Jesus?

In these days it is particularly hard to have faith in God because there are so many things all around us to trust in. God seems unreal. Because he knew how hard it would be, he sent his Holy Spirit to convince us how much we need him and to encourage us to turn to him. If we do not have enough faith, God's Holy Spirit will give us faith. The Holy Spirit gently assures us that God cares, just as the man gently assured the tangled horse that he cared. The Holy Spirit invites us to trust Jesus, just as the man invited the horse to trust him. All we can do is stop struggling and give God a chance.

What does faith in Jesus mean?

1) Faith in Jesus means to depend on what Jesus has done. We do this by accepting him as our Savior. Through Jesus' death and resurrection, God offers us the forgiveness of our sins and new life. He asks us to depend on what Jesus has done rather than on what we can do. He asks us to trust in Jesus rather than in ourselves.

2) Faith in Jesus means to trust Jesus enough to repent. We do this by turning to God and confessing that we have sinned by trying to live our own lives without him, and asking him to forgive us.

The good news from the Bible is: Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord (Acts 3:19); If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (I John 1:9).

3) Faith in Jesus means to confess Jesus as Lord. We do this by inviting Jesus to take control of our lives and confessing that we recognize him as Lord over all. We may not fully understand what it will mean to follow him, but we will trust him to show us the way as we go along. Even though we may fail often, God will forgive our failures. He will help us to overcome our temptations and to live useful and satisfying lives.

This is the promise from the Bible: If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9).

To believe "in your heart" means that you want to believe that Jesus is risen from the dead even though you may not be able to do so. If you will tell God how hard it is to believe, he will accept you and help you to trust in him.

To put it simply, we become Christians by believing in Jesus.

This means that:

1) We choose to accept him as our Savior and depend on him rather than on ourselves.

2) We repent of our sins and ask God to forgive us.

3) We turn ourselves over to Jesus, confess him as Lord of all, and invite him to take control over us. Then he helps us to believe that he arose from the dead and is able to lead us through our lives.

The Spirit of God helps us make this choice and even helps us to believe and to obey Jesus. He also gives us God's gift of salvation.

Your response to GodOne way to respond to God is to pray to him, either in your own words or in the words of the following prayer:

God, I put my faith in what you have done for me through Jesus' death and resurrection. I confess how hard it is for me to believe, but I am trusting you to give me faith.
I confess that I am a sinner, and I repent and ask your forgiveness. I depend on Jesus to save me from my sins and to give me eternal life.
I want to obey Jesus as the Lord of my life. I don't know all that this means, but I will depend on him to show me as I go along. I know I cannot earn the right to be a Christian. I accept this right as a free gift. Thank you that you have forgiven my sins, that you are my heavenly Father, and that you have accepted me as your child. Help me to be a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. Amen.

If you have just made this decision, welcome to God's family! God has called you and given you the faith to believe in him, and you have responded to his call. Now you are beginning a new life, a life that you have received as a gift from God. You belong to God and he will give you the strength to live this new life by faith. A good promise to remember is: Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (Romans 10:13).

Since you now belong to God's family, it will be important for you to become acquainted with other members of this family. Find a pastor and some Christian people who will help you begin your new life as a Christian.

The LORD works from the inside out. The world works from outside in .

"The world would take people out of the slums. CHRIST takes the slums out of the people, and then they take themselves out of the slums. The world would mold men by changing their environment. CHRIST changes men , who then change their environment. The world would shape human behavior, but CHRIST can change human nature." --Ezra Taft Benson

"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14

In the Nursery Department, kids (age 0-4 years) are served and taught the ways of the Lord through prayer, worship, and the Word of God.

In a fun, loving, Jesus-centered atmosphere, we co-labor with parents in training up their children through repetition of Bible truths and intercessory prayer. Our goal is that their little hearts are prepared to receive Jesus and experience his love!!

Where do I go on Sunday Morning?

As you walk up you'll discover the Children's Ministry Banner. Follow the flags to the sign-in table and to our nursery. Or ask one of our wonderful hospitality greeters at the front of the auditorium for directions and they will be happy to walk you to our children's ministry sign in table and to our nursery.

Kid Connection is more than Sunday school. We are a place where a child can live out their faith in Jesus Christ and have positive experiences through multi-sensory Bible learning. The Bible is our final source and inspiration as we carefully plan each and every Sunday. Sunday's Kid Connection include music, media presentations, arts and crafts, whole group discussions, and most importantly the small group break-out sessions. We believe that every person is a child of God who He carefully placed in our care to further their faith journey. We are a positive place for them to come to worship God. Our primary focus is on the child and their family. Our ministry assists families by supporting them and giving them the knowledge and spiritual guidance needed to raise strong spiritual children.

A Connecting Church - ChuchPlanting Movement

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." -Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

"The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ." -1 Corinthians 12:12

The Biblical Mandate of Connection and Community

In our Chrisitan community, too many individuals and too many independent churches are going at alone. In doing so, they are missing out in the biblical mandate of connecting in community to establish and advance the Lord's Kingdom purposes.

With this in mind, Cornerstone is connected to a larger Chrisitan church planting movement moving throughout the United States and through global missions. The Evangelical Covenant Church is a denomination of more than 750 churches in the United States and Canada and is curretly the fastest growing denomination in America. It was founded by Swedish immigrants in 1885 as a voluntary covenant of churches committed to working together to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Covenant churches emphasize the Bible\'s witness to new life in Jesus Christ expressed in a day to day walk with the Lord. Today, it is one of the fastest growing denominations and simultaneously, continues to be committed to be "kingdom minded" and many of the similar values that Cornerstone cherishes: diversity, justice and compassion, churchplanting and global missions. It is arguably one of the most diverse denominations with at least 20% being ethnic/multiethnic churches. Below is a summary of the ECC.

What is a Covenant Church?

Evangelical, but not exclusive

Biblical, but not doctrinaire

Traditional, but not rigid

Congregational, but not independent

The Covenant Mission

We are united by Christ in a holy covenant of churches empowered by the Holy Spirit to obey the Great Commandments and the Great Commission:

...to love God with all our heart, soul, strength and mind;

...to love our neighbor as ourselves, and

...to go into all the world and make disciples.

Introduction

The Evangelical Covenant Church of America has its roots in historical Christianity as it emerged in the Protestant Reformation, in the biblical instruction of the Lutheran Church of Sweden, and in the great spiritual awakenings of the nineteenth century. We are an apostolic church. We confess the historic faith of the Apostles. We believe in Jesus Christ the Son of God, our Savior and Lord. We accept the Holy Scriptures, the Old and New Testaments, as "the Word of God and the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine, and conduct." We are a catholic church. We see ourselves to be part of the universal church of Jesus Christ from the days of the apostles until now. We are a reformation church. We stand in the mainstream of the sixteenth century Protestant movement which insisted on justification by grace alone through faith alone. We are an evangelical church. We were born out of the revival movement that touched all of Europe in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and came to flower for us in nineteenth and twentieth-century America.

Appreciating this classical Christian heritage and hungering for an ever more vital experience of new life in Christ, Covenanters affirm a number of evangelical emphases. Among these are:

1. The centrality of the Scriptures, the Old and New Testaments, as the authoritative Word of God and the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine, and conduct. We believe it is essential to the life of the Church that it be a company of people who want, above all else, that their lives be shaped by the powerful and living Word of God. The alternative is clear. Not to be shaped by the Word of God is to be shaped by the world.

2. The necessity of the new birth for entrance into God\'s kingdom, and the importance of continuing growth in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ for sound spiritual health. Jesus said, "Unless one is born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3). He also said, "If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free" (John 8:332).

3. The Church as a fellowship of believers, characterized by mutual participation in and sharing of the new life in Christ. Membership is by confession of personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. It is open to all believers. Considerations of class or race, education or pedigree, wealth or prestige do not enter. Uniformity in creedal details is not expected. What is required is that one be "born anew to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" (1 Peter 1:3). "The doors of the church are wide enough to admit all who believe and narrow enough to exclude those who do not," said our forebears. We affirm no less today.

4. The ministry of the Holy Spirit, who with the Father and the Son calls the church into being, empowers its witness, guides its mission, and supplies the gifts needed by the Church and its members to exalt Christ.

5. The reality of freedom in Christ, who delivers us from the power of sin and moves us by his grace into a whole new experience of obedience and life. This freedom creates an ecclesiastical climate which allows for differences of opinion in matters of interpretation, doctrine, and practice within the context of biblical guidelines and historical Christianity. Such freedom "is to be distinguished from the individualism that disregards the centrality of the Word of God and the mutual responsibilities and disciplines of the spiritual community" (Preamble to the Constitution).

Affirmations like these are not to be taken as creedal statements. They are rather to be understood as true and valid descriptions of what Covenanters believe and cherish as they continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of God, awaiting that day when "the kingdom of this world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever" (Revelation 11:15).

Knowing God - Knowing God

Hi! I am so glad that you decided to learn more about how having a relationship with God.

How to Know God

1. Realize that you are a sinner.
No matter how good a life we try to live, we still fall miserably short of being a good person. That is because we are all sinners. We all fall short of God's desire for us to be holy. The Bible says, "No one is good-not even one" (Romans 3:10 NLT). This is because we cannot become who we are supposed to be without Jesus Christ.

2. Recognize that Jesus Christ died on the cross for you.
The Bible tells us, "But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while were still sinners" (Romans 5:8 NLT). This is the Good News, that God loves us so much that He sent His only Son to die in our place when we least deserved it.

3. Admit your sin.
The Bible tells us to "repent and be converted" (Acts 3:19 NKJV). The word repent means to change our direction in life. Instead of running from God, we can run toward Him.

4. Receive Jesus Christ into your life.
Becoming a Christian is not merely believing some creed or going to church on Sunday. It is having Christ Himself living in your life and heart. Jesus said, "Behold, I stand at the door (of your life) and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in . . . ." (Revelation 3:20 NKJV).

If you would like to have a relationship with Christ, simply pray this prayer and mean it in your heart.

Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe you died for my sins. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life. I confess you as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you for saving me. Amen.

If you just prayed that prayer and meant it, Jesus Christ has now taken residence in your heart! Your decision to follow Christ means God has forgiven you and that you will spend eternity in heaven. The Bible tells us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9 NKJV).

To put your faith in action, be sure to spend time with God by reading your Bible, praying, going to church, getting involved in youth group and telling others about Christ.

The Goal of Covenant Small Groups at Cornerstone - Covenant Small Groups

No Title - Biblical Community

Seven Functions of Living out Biblical Community in Our Covenant Small Group

SPIRITUAL FORMATION
As a Biblical Community, we will commit ourselves to our growth and development in Christ. We will confess our areas of struggles to one another and set personal goals for our growth in Christ in the year to come as we personally coach and encourage one another to grow in our understanding of our Christian life and expect results that glorify Christ and expand his Kingdom. Through the year, we will share our progress and encourage one another monthly in our pursuit of Christ-likeness.

EVANGELISM
Each person within the Small Group Outposts will commit to pray for at least three Seekers within their neighborhood, work or school using the prayer, care, and share model of reaching out to others in our spheres of influence with God's love. As a Biblical Community, we will pray together monthly in our Covenant Small Group for our seeker's personal request. We will hold one another accountable to prayerfully touch those seeker households quarterly. We desire to win at least one household to Christ each year.

RECREATION
Home Groups and Community Groups that recreate together will find opportunity for spontaneous and genuine expressions of Christian beliefs, practices and virtues. Inviting non-believers and unconnected people to these recreational activities can often bridge the gap between isolation and connection.

VOLUNTEERISM
As members of this Biblical Community, we will commit ourselves to support the greater Body of Christ through involvement in ministries such as youth, children, worship, and missions in the community and beyond. We will celebrate what God is doing in the greater Body of Christ through our celebration worship as well as connecting with other Christian churches to fulfill the Great Commission in the Coachella Valley, Riverside Country and to the ends of the world. Using Jesus' example of servant leadership, it is the hope and expectation that every person at Cornerstone volunteer in some area.

INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS
As an expression of our desire to share Christ with the world, our Biblical Community will support monthly at least one International Missions Project through increased awareness, commitment to prayer, and financial contributions.

CARE
The foundation of Biblical Community will be our commitment to care for one another. This will manifest itself in practical help to those in difficult and crisis situations through such things as prayer, hospital or home visits, meal preparation, and the like.

EXTENDING COMPASSION
In response to the social needs of our community, each Covenant Small Group will commit to participation in at least four onsite compassion projects as families through the year. Monthly, these Small Group Outposts will select, prepare for, or celebrate their involvement in their compassion project.

About the Evangelical Covenant Church

With its roots in the Protestant Reformation and the home Bible study movement in Sweden, the Evangelical Covenant is a growing denomination that adheres to the affirmation of historical Christianity regarding the Bible as the Word of God and the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine, and conduct. The Covenant Church believes the following:

1. The centrality of the Word of God (II Timothy 3:16)
2. The necessity of the new birth in Christ (John 3:3, 14:6)
3. The church as a fellowship of believers (I Corinthians 12:12-13)
4. A conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:25)
5. The reality of freedom in Christ (John 8:31-32, Galatians 5:1)

What makes the Covenant unique from other denominations is the fact that while it strongly affirms the clear teaching of the Word of God, it allows the believers the personal freedom to have varying interpretations on issues that are not clearly presented in the Bible.

We have a threefold approach to helping you become a fully developing follower of Christ. 1. Inspiration· Inspiration is an important part of church life. We are dedicated through the ministry of the Word and the ministry of Worship to inspire you toward greater inspiration in your spiritual journey.Inspiration could come in the form of renewed hope, a sense of awe, encouragement to obey God or a conviction of a way of life.2. Instruction· Instruction is foundational to healthy Christian development. We are dedicated to helping you increase in biblical knowledge, biblical wisdom and practical application of the Word of God. Strong and growing followers of Christ study the Bible for themselves and share their discoveries with others. Our primary environment for this type of instruction is found in our Home Groups. These groups of 10 to 12 people dig deeper into the biblical passages presented in the Worship Service. These groups will provide a forum for you to ask questions about God's Word and gain answers from others who are passionate about deepening their spiritual understanding. They are the primary arena that spiritual gifts are found and nurtured for the building up of the Body of Christ.3. Involvement· Involvement allows you to put your faith into action. We are dedicated to helping you get involved with other followers of Christ in a meaningful way. We do this through our Small Group Outposts. These groups meet in homes, in restaurants, in schools, and wherever else people meet during the week and are great places to "be the church to one another." Getting involved in an Outpost allows you to live out your faith by encouraging, serving, challenging, and caring for others.

How to Know God - How To Know God

THE ANSWER: WHAT IS THE GOSPEL? There is a wonderful book which contains everything we need to know to live our lives the way our Creator intended (II Timothy 3:16,17). There are countless truths to live by found in this book, God's message to mankind, but if we were to boil everything down to its most basic message, this book, the Bible, makes three things clear... First, the Bible says that mankind has a problem, and that problem is called sin. Sin is any action or attitude that falls short of God's perfect standard. Every one of us has the problem of sin (Romans 3:23). And the Bible teaches us that there is a consequence to sin - sin separates us from a holy God (Habakkuk 1:13). In fact, the Bible tells us that end result of sin is death (Romans 6:23) and that there is nothing that we ourselves can do to solve the problem of sin. Second, the Bible says that there is a solution to the problem of sin, and that solution is the person of Jesus Christ (Romans 6:23). The Bible tells us that God loved us so much that he sent Jesus, His only Son, to die in our place (John 3:16). Jesus paid the penalty of your sin so that you would not have to be forever separated from God (I John 4:10). The Bible also tells us that Jesus is the only solution for our sin problem (John 14:6). Third, the Bible demands a decision. It is not enough to just know about Jesus Christ and His death on the cross for you. You must choose to put your trust in Christ, to receive this free gift of salvation that God offers (John 1:12). All of us have the problem of sin. There is only one solution to the problem - the person of Jesus Christ and His death on the cross for us. Every one of us must decide... What will you do with Jesus Christ? THE DECISION: WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH JESUS CHRIST? You must make a decision. What are your options? There are only three possible answers to this question: 1. To say yes, to accept God's free gift of salvation by putting your trust in Jesus Christ. 2. To say no, to reject God's offer of salvation. The Bible says that those who make this choice will spend eternity separated from God in a place called Hell. 3. To say maybe, to try to put off the decision to a more convenient time. The Bible does say that God is patient, wanting everyone to come to the point of accepting His gift of salvation (II Peter 3:9). But none of us is promised that we will be here tomorrow, and because of this "x-factor" of death, trying to put off our decision by saying maybe automatically puts us in the "no" category. So, in reality, there are only two answers to the question, "What will you do with Jesus Christ?" To accept His free gift of salvation or to reject that gift. Let me ask you, "What have you done with Jesus Christ?" If you have never accepted God's offer of eternal life, I can think of no better time than right now (II Corinthians 6:2). If you would like to say yes to Christ, you can do it right now, wherever you are, whatever you are doing. Join me in our prayer room to talk to Him and invite Him into your life. The invitation is open - you can accept the gift of salvation and get rid of the sin in your life. It doesn't matter what you're doing or what you've done. The offer is open to everyone. Please accept it IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BEGIN A RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST RIGHT NOW, RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE, YOU NEED ONLY ASK HIM... If you've come this far, you probably realize you're about to make the most important decision of your life. Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." He also said, "whoever comes to me I will never drive away." So if you ask Him, you will be accepted. The way believers talk to the Lord is through prayer. Your prayer should be your own, from your own heart to His. If you're not in the habit of praying, though, you may need an example. An example of such a prayer may go something like this: Father in Heaven,I know that I am a sinnerand need forgiveness.I believe that Your Son Jesusdied in my place,to pay the penalty for my sin,and rose again for my salvation.I want to turn from my sinful ways,so I now ask you,Lord Jesus, to comeinto my life as my Saviorand my Lord.In Jesus name I pray, Amen. The Bible says, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." So if you have asked Him into your life, and believe He died to save you, you are a Christian, bound for Heaven. The difficulties of living as a Christian in a sinful world are many. Therefore it is essential that you immediately seek other sincere, Bible-believing Christians to help you sustain your resolve. Both individual Christian friends and a solidly Bible-based Christian church are essential. If you have taken this all-important step, please... Stop in and let me welcome you to the family

Growing in the 10 Core Christian Virtues - 10 Christian Virtues

10 Core Virtues - Loving God and Neighbor1. Gentleness · I am thoughtful, considerate and calm in dealing with others.Philippians 4:5, "Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near."2. Faithfulness· I have established a good name with God and with others based on my long-term loyalty to those relationships.Proverbs 3:3-4, "Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man."3. Hope· I can cope with the hardships of life and with death because of the hope I have in Jesus Christ.Hebrews 6:19-20, "We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf."4. Joy· I have inner contentment and purpose in spite of my circumstances.John 15:11, "I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete."5. Love· I sacrificially and unconditionally love and forgive others.1 John 4:10-12, "This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us."6. Peace· I am free from anxiety because things are right between God, myself and others.Philippians 4:6-7, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."7. Self-Control· I have the power, through Christ, to control myself.Titus 2:11-13, "11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. 12 It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope-the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ."8. Humility· I choose to esteem others above myself.Philippians 2:3-4, "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others."9. Patience· I take a long time to overheat and endure patiently under the unavoidable pressures of life.Proverbs 14:29, "A patient man has great understanding, but a quick-tempered man displays folly."10. Kindness/Goodness· I choose to do the right things in my relationships with others.1 Thessalonians 5:15, "Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else."next >
